You know your pet鈥檚 name, but finding a birth date, recent photo or useful information for a sitter can take longer. Adoption papers, family messages and your phone gallery all hold different pieces of their story. A well-prepared profile brings those pieces together, without requiring you to complete every field at once.
Start with what you know, keep uncertain information clearly separate, and decide what stays private. A useful profile is a reliable starting point, not a collection of guesses.
Begin with reliable identity details
Record their name, species, known breed, sex and colour. Describe recognisable markings rather than using vague words. Check existing documents instead of copying details from memory; do not invent an exact birth date if it is unknown.
PetStorya supports birth and death dates and living or deceased status, so their story can remain after their death. This does not replace official identification procedures. Identification references are managed separately and remain private unless you explicitly allow publication.
Choose a photo that represents them today
A puppy or kitten photo is a lovely memory, but may not show what your pet looks like now. Use a clear, recognisable current portrait and keep older pictures in the gallery or journal.
Check the background too: an envelope, street number or other detail can reveal personal information. A visible profile does not need to show your home or family members.
Tell their story without publishing a medical file
Describe how they joined your family, what they enjoy and the things that make them unique. Adoption, journeys and birthdays can become journal events rather than one long biography.
Keep different uses distinct. The profile introduces your pet; the health notebook organises follow-up information; dedicated shares provide selected information to the people who need it. Allergies and prescriptions do not belong in a public biography simply because they matter.
Choose visibility before sharing
Private: organise first
A private profile is inaccessible to public visitors. Creating an account or pet does not automatically publish owner details or private documents. A QR does not bypass these settings: scanning a private profile鈥檚 code does not open its content.
Unlisted: available through an authorised link
An unlisted profile is not shown as a public directory listing, but someone with its authorised link or QR can access the available presentation. Links can be forwarded; unlisted does not mean restricted to one named person.
Public: prepared for visitors
A public profile can be viewed through enabled public features. Your owner details are not automatically exposed. Review the visitor presentation after important changes, and use temporary shares when someone only needs particular information.
Think about languages and carers
PetStorya lets you enter translated profile content. This helps families who use more than one language, but each version needs reviewing: translating a heading does not translate the story itself. Short, clear text is easier to update.
Collaborator roles are separate from public visibility. A family member鈥檚 authorised access does not require publishing the whole profile. A temporary sitter and a regular family collaborator also have different needs.
Keep a small update routine
After a new portrait, move or contact change, review the relevant information. With several pets, check that you are editing the right profile. Accurate, current information is more useful than fields nobody maintains.
